Vitamin D: Are you getting enough from diet?

Vitamin D is an essential nutrient in the body, mainly important for bone health and promote calcium absorption in the gut. It also helps to boost our immune system and reduce inflammation.
Vitamin D is created by our own body when exposed to direct sunlight during outdoors. However, vitamin D deficiency is more common nowadays because of lack of sun exposure.

It’s challenging to get enough Vitamin D from diet because very few foods naturally contain or are fortified with Vitamin D.
Sources include:
- Oily fish – such as salmon, sardines
- Red meat or liver
- Egg yolks
- Fortified foods – such as some fat spreads and breakfast cereals
Another source of vitamin D is dietary supplements.
